RIP Gav

R.I.P. Gav - 21/9/2011 - Our beloved Gavin Larkin passed away this afternoon at 3.28pm. He was surrounded by his family and the love that he has created. He will never be forgotten for who he was, how he lived and what he has left behind. I know I speak on behalf of all that knew him when I say Gav, thank you for being you. The world is a better place for having had you in it.
The Larkin family would like to thank everybody who has contributed to this blog. The messages have been a constant source of support and wonderful memories that the family will cherish forever. They have been overwhelmed by all the good wishes, lovely words, food & flowers. The community around Gavin, Maryanne, Gus, Josie and Van has been wonderful and made an enormous difference. Thank you to all.

May we suggest, if you would like to offer further support, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to one of the following nominated causes: RUOK? Day Donations or Cure For Life

  4. You made a massive impact on so many strangers, let alone friends. I will mourn someone that I never meet but let us into his inner self. Presence is a big word.

  6. Hi Gav,
I just spoke about your life and contribution on ABC Canberra. Probably the hardest thing I have ever had to do so soon after your passing but I wanted to attempt to celebrate the extraordinary things that have come from your life and your passion. You have generated so much goodwill and tapped a serging nerve of compassion. Last night I read from a wonderful book called Open the Door of My Heart by a Buddhist monk called Ajahn Brahm. He recounted his experience of living in northern Thailand and operating a crematorium and noting that death is not treated with the same sense of loss as in the west. He likened it to going to a wonderful concert and even though you knew you would never see that band again, you still cry encore and delight at the last couple of songs. Mate your last couple of songs were all time classics.
I still feel a huge loss though.
Rest in peace mate. Your spirit is still with us. With much love. Graeme

  13. Some time ago I came across this site, and couldn't be more impressed with the work of Mr Larkin - I am a worker in the field of youth suicide and found much inspiration in Mr Larkin's life, although I hadn't realised he was so ill - however I find much strength in his passing. Thank you Mr Larkin - and more importantly now your family and friends - for your insight and thoughts, and your graceful passing. Bless.

  14. RIP Gavin Larkin. Thank you for the legacy you have left behind in the form of R U Ok? Day. Working with individuals with depression, anxiety and other mental health problems, you have no idea how much of a difference you are managing to make by de-stigmatising suicide. You will be missed.
