RIP Gav

R.I.P. Gav - 21/9/2011 - Our beloved Gavin Larkin passed away this afternoon at 3.28pm. He was surrounded by his family and the love that he has created. He will never be forgotten for who he was, how he lived and what he has left behind. I know I speak on behalf of all that knew him when I say Gav, thank you for being you. The world is a better place for having had you in it.
The Larkin family would like to thank everybody who has contributed to this blog. The messages have been a constant source of support and wonderful memories that the family will cherish forever. They have been overwhelmed by all the good wishes, lovely words, food & flowers. The community around Gavin, Maryanne, Gus, Josie and Van has been wonderful and made an enormous difference. Thank you to all.

May we suggest, if you would like to offer further support, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to one of the following nominated causes: RUOK? Day Donations or Cure For Life

Hi Gavin, I am a very old mate of Aya's and haven't seen you for a long time. I remember loads of us hanging out down at Balmoral when your dad lived there.

I just wanted to say thank you for the incredible awareness raising you did with the "Are you ok" initiative. I remember reading an interview with you about it thinking what a cool idea it was. I then looked closely at the photo of you and of Barry and realised the family connection!

Anyway I am a teacher and am also head of student care in the high school where I work. I am lucky enough to be with teenagers every day who are so creative, energetic, enthusiastic and loud! However they are also often very fragile and in need of affirmation and positive reinforcement. One of the well being initiatives we have implemented is the "Are you ok?" conversation with our students . I was really inspired by what you did. This simple question goes a very long way and often it is all that it takes to actually connect with a young person and ultimately get them some help when they really need it.

So, again thanks and I think you and your family are amazing.
Peace and love to you all,
